WOMEN INNOVATORSV |
According to WIPO (The World Intellectual Property Organization) Innovation is simply doing something new that improves a product, process or service. Innovation gets really exciting when it improves our everyday choices. Innovation is constantly going on all around us, so much so, that organizations and individuals must choose what innovation is important to their growth and developmen. Here we showcase women innovators and visionaries to share how to create sustainable solutions to community issues locally and globally. Through the lives of extraordinary people who have stepped forward to become problem solvers, in spite of the negatives, we can learn to grow, share, be inspired and empowered to enact our own successes. We hope you enjoy and share these stories from the poor and the proud to the rich and influential. We plan to regularly update "Visionaries in Action" with inspiring featuers on women around the world, across all sectors.
In order for women to be equally represented in the news journals and history as keystone inventors, politicians, researchers, scientists, and so much more; in order for women to receive equal pay and recognition for legacy contributions around the world, throughout history; we must define ourselves in defense of our heritage, skills and values. If we always rely on others to tell our stories, we are asking others to define us - to tell us who we are. We are asking for permission to be. How then can we ever be treated equally? The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the United Nations have issued a Universal Declaration of Human Rights stating everyone has the right to the protection of the moral and material interests resulting from any scientific, literary or artistic production of which they author.” For more: www.wipo.int/. |

OPRAH WINFREY - grew from poor to prominent through education, work and grit. She paid her dues in radio before having successes in television. In the early years of The Oprah Winfrey Show, the program was classified as a tabloid talk show. By the late ‘90’s Winfrey began hosting shows on broader topics such as heart disease, geopolitics, spirituality, and meditation, interviewing celebrities on social issues they were directly involved with, such as cancer, charity work, or substance abuse. She also hosted televised giveaways including shows where every audience member received a new car (donated by General Motors) or a trip to Australia (donated by Australian tourism bodies). In 1998, Winfrey co-founded the women's cable television network Oxygen along with former Nickelodeon executive Geraldine Laybourne and producers Marcy Carsey, Tom Werner and Caryn Mandabach (of Carsey-Werner fame). Oprah is president of Harpo Productions and has launched a new channel called OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network. |
